A Day in Care

06:55 — First call of the day. You arrive bright‑ish and early, armed with kindness, caffeine, and the ability to look awake even when you’re not entirely convinced you are.
07:38 — Locate a pair of glasses in a place that raises several questions about physics, memory, and possibly time travel.
08:22 — Provide personal care, reassurance, and a full review of last night’s TV because apparently you’re now a part‑time entertainment correspondent.
09:50 — Engage in delicate negotiations with a pet who has decided you are now part of the household. You accept this new role.
11:03 — Conduct a forensic‑level search for a missing hearing aid. Find it. Get told, “Oh no, that’s the old one.”
12:41 — Produce a cup of tea so perfectly balanced it could win a national award. Receive a nod of approval that feels like a five‑star review.
13:00 — Break time. Technically. Your brain is still doing the mental maths of travel times, checking your rota again to see if there has been any changes, and “did I lock that door?”
16:00 — Back out for the afternoon run. Re‑enter the world as a combination of support worker, comedian, problem‑solver, and human reminder system.
16:47 — Become a walking calendar: medication, appointments, birthdays, bin day, and the neighbour’s name. You didn’t apply for this role, but you’re thriving.
18:15 — Offer companionship, dignity, and a laugh that changes the whole energy of the room. This is the bit no training manual ever captures.
19:58 — Attempt to leave a visit. Get stopped by a story that begins with, “Before you go…” Stay another ten minutes. Worth it.
21:10 — Deliver calm, reassurance, and the kind of presence that makes someone feel safe settling in for the night.
22:04 — Final call. Final chat. Final goodbyes before you head off. Leave knowing you’ve made someone’s day easier, brighter, or simply less lonely.
And that’s the part no job description ever mentions, but it’s the heart of the work.
Across the Vale, this is what our team does every day: With humour. With patience. With skill. With heart.
And we’re proud of every single person who makes it happen.
